1.

Use of the Policies and Procedures Manual

The purpose of the manual is to provide each member with an authoritative compilation of the policies and procedures of the Pioneer Bible Translators Association of Papua New Guinea, Incorporated.

This group of manuals cover several subjects: Introduction (what you’re reading now), Miscellaneous Information, Members’ Finance, Radio Procedures, Data Processing, PNG Travel, Translation, Publications, Pacific Orientation Course, and Constitution.  Each of these manuals is published and maintained separately from the others and they will bear various version numbers and publishing dates.  For convenience, we refer to the collection as “The Policies and Procedures Manual”, though you will probably never see them collected together as a single manual.  This introduction does, however, apply to them as a group.

The  information in the manuals has been compiled for use by PBT members only. Those outside of the membership may not have all of the knowledge needed to interpret the information, and may not be aware of the reasons for a given policy. PBT does not allow any use of this manual except by members of PBT, and by those persons who may be assisting the organization.

The history of a given policy can be researched by moving backwards through the salient motions of previous Annual General Meetings.  One can also research a subject through the AskSam database of all meeting minutes and the manuals themselves. (See the Data Processing department or a Director to find out how to so this.)

The information in these manuals will change so if you want to be very sure you have the most recent information as the ADSS if the copy of the manual you have is the most recent manual.

Notes About Word Usage

In order to avoid awkward constructions like “and/or,” “his/her,” “village(s)” and “member/team,” the editors have established the following rules of usage for the Policies and Procedures Manual.

1. If you see the word “or” and the context requires the idea of “and” in addition to or in place of “or,” you may mentally substitute “and/or.”

2. If the context requires, “his” can optionally mean “her,” “he” can mean “she,” and so forth.

3. Any singular noun or pronoun can be understood to be plural if the context requires.

4. The term “member” includes both full members and short term workers such as STA’s and interns unless the context requires a restriction to one or the other..

5. If the context requires, “member” can become “team” or the converse.

6. The term “single team” refers to one member working by himself, or two or more single (unmarried) members working together as a team.

3.

Instructions for Maintaining These Manuals

When necessary, individual manuals will revised. This will involve the addition or deletion of material, rearrangement of text on the pages, and the renumbering of pages. When you receive a new version of a manual, the old version should be destroyed.

4.

Insuring That Your Manuals Are Current

To make sure that you have the most recent information available, please check with the ADSS to insure that you have to most recent version of the manual you are using.

Please bear in mind also that new versions are only produced when a significant portion of the information has changed.  If you have any doubt that information in a manual may be out of date, check with the ADSS.
